Harvey Stone

Graduated 1940


Harvey Stone was a great multiple sport athlete for Cushing High School.  Harvey was a 2 time State Runner-up for the Cushing Tiger Wrestling Team.  Harvey was also a 2 time All Stater in Football.  After Graduation, Harvey played football at the University of Oklahoma, before he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II.  He was assigned to duty in Miami in 1945 and played football for the Navy Tars until he was discharged in 1947.  Later Harvey Stone signed a Professional Football contract with the Los Angeles Rams.


"1941 - Back in Norman, eight Sooners joined the military - Guard Olin Keith, Tackle Tommy Tallchief, Halfbacks Gus Kitchens, Bill Blancett, and Harvey Stone, who was touted as one of the best new lineman to come out of the freshman ranks in years."


Stephan Moore

Graduated 1984


As a Junior in 1983, Stephan led Cushing High School to their 1st State Championship in Basketball. They finished the season 29-0.  He made the State 3A All-Tournament Team & was the State Tournament’s leading rebounder with 31.  In 1984, as a senior Stephan lead the team back to the state tournament.  They finished the season with a 25-3 record.  Stephan was again on the 3A All-Tournament Team.  He was also selected to the Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.  In 1984 Stephan was selected to the All-State Team, and the Faith 7 Bowl Team (Oklahoma Vs. Texas All-Star Game).  Stephan continued his basketball career at the University of Arkansas, where he played for four years. 




Melvin Skelton

Coached at Cushing from 1942-1961

(entered the service during WWII,
so he did not coach in 1944, and 1945)


Coach Melvin Skelton coached football, baseball, and was also the Athletic Director at Cushing High School.  Coach Skelton had a career football record of 115 wins, 51 losses, and 9 ties throughout his coaching career at CHS.  He coached the 1958 team to a State Championship, and was named the Coach of the Year that season.


In 1932 Melvin Skelton was a member of the ONLY Oklahoma team NEVER scored on - a team that is now ranked #23 in the 100 Top Sports Teams in Oklahoma History: 1932 Shawnee football: 11-0-1 Avenged 0-0 tie with Capitol Hill by winning benefit game 15-0. Stars were Melvin Skelton; Mickey Parks, Aubrey Anthony and Quarterback Jack Baer, who went on to coach OU to 1951 College World Series title.



Faye O’Dell

Coach Inductee

Coach Faye O’Dell coached Cushing’s JH football teams during coach Melvin Skelton’s tenure as the Head Football Coach.  Coach O’Dell was a large part of Cushing Football’s success during the 50’s. He provided discipline and a skill and knowledge base that led to many successful teams.  Coach O’Dell was the Oklahoma All State Coach in 1964, and coached in the Oil Bowl in 1972.  He is a member of the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame, the University of Central Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Hall of Fame.

As a motivational speaker Coach O’Dell spoke for President Reagan, the NFL Hall of Fame, and Coach Bear Bryant’s retirement.
