In 1932 Melvin Skelton was a member of the ONLY Oklahoma team NEVER scored on - a team that is now ranked #23 in the 100 Top Sports Teams in Oklahoma History: 1932 Shawnee football: 11-0-1 Avenged 0-0 tie with Capitol Hill by winning benefit game 15-0. Stars were Melvin Skelton; Mickey Parks, Aubrey Anthony and Quarterback Jack Baer, who went on to coach OU to 1951 College World Series title.
Coach Faye O’Dell coached Cushing’s JH football teams during coach Melvin Skelton’s tenure as the Head Football Coach. Coach O’Dell was a large part of Cushing Football’s success during the 50’s. He provided discipline and a skill and knowledge base that led to many successful teams. Coach O’Dell was the Oklahoma All State Coach in 1964, and coached in the Oil Bowl in 1972. He is a member of the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame, the University of Central Oklahoma Hall of Fame, Fellowship of Christian Athletes National Hall of Fame.
As a motivational speaker Coach O’Dell spoke for President Reagan, the NFL Hall of Fame, and Coach Bear Bryant’s retirement.
